WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 1155, the Searching for and Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome (SCRUB) Act, and H.R. 712, the Sunshine for Regulatory Decrees and Settlements Act:

“The flood of unnecessary regulations imposed by unelected Washington bureaucrats continues to impose great costs on our nation’s job creators and raises prices on hard-working families for everything from groceries to gas to healthcare. The SCRUB Act allows for a top-to-bottom audit of the Federal Register, which will result in a more effective, efficient and accountable federal government.”

“For too long, federal agencies have undermined Congress and the rule making process by regulating through litigation. The Sunshine for Regulatory Decrees and Settlements Act takes important steps to curb sue-and-settle litigation by shining light on the backroom deals that take place between agencies and special interests. Hard-working American taxpayers will now have an opportunity to weigh in and participate in the executive decision-making process.”
