WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 5682, legislation to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline. The bill passed the House this afternoon with overwhelming bipartisan support, 252-161.
“Today’s vote to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline will help create American jobs and increase American energy security,” Rep. Scalise said. “For over six years, the Obama Administration has dragged its feet and played political games while delaying this much-needed project and holding 40,000 American jobs hostage. The American people are hungry for a strong national energy policy that increases production here at home and reduces our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. That policy starts today.
“The American people have waited far too long for this moment. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to quickly approve this legislation so that the president can sign it into law. I would like to thank Mr. Cassidy for his leadership in bringing this important legislation to the floor.”
