WASHINGTON, D.C.—Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s decision to reinstate the prohibition on the use of taxpayer dollars to provide or promote abortions in foreign nations, and the U.S. House’s scheduled vote this week on H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act:

“I applaud President Trump’s bold decision in his first full week in office to reinstate the Mexico City Policy, banning the use of taxpayer dollars to provide or promote abortions in foreign nations. This quick action by President Trump is a strong statement in defense of life, as well as a positive signal to hard-working Americans that their tax dollars won’t be used to undermine their religious beliefs. After years of former President Obama using taxpayer money to promote abortions at home and abroad, it is a refreshing change that we once again have a president who defends innocent life at every stage.

“I’m also excited that we will vote in the House this week to permanently ban the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion anywhere in America. These are two major victories when it comes to defending innocent human life and protecting the conscience rights of hard-working families.”
