WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement today after FCC voted to roll back the Obama Administration’s reclassification of broadband as a “common carrier” under Title II of the Communications Act:
“We all want a free and open internet where consumers are protected and benefit from competition in the marketplace. Chairman Pai’s and the FCC’s work to roll back this heavy-handed, outdated Obama Administration regulation on the internet will ensure those goals are achieved. Knowing how we use the internet today, it is common-sense that we should not regulate it like a utility, and hamper its innovation by subjecting it to burdensome FCC regulations. Congress should work towards a legislative solution that would protect both the best interests of consumers and the future of the internet.”
