WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) latest report on the American Health Care Act:

“Obamacare has failed, and its epic collapse has left millions of Americans without health coverage and millions more with insurance they can’t afford. That’s why House Republicans worked to pass the American Health Care Act—to repeal Obamacare and replace it with reforms that lower health care premiums, protect people with pre-existing conditions, and put families back in charge of their health care decisions.

“Today, the Congressional Budget Office confirmed once again that the American Health Care Act lowers premiums, cuts taxes, reduces the deficit, and increases choices for families who are struggling under the weight of Obamacare’s collapse. The bill also reforms Medicaid, the most broken form of health care, so that it better serves low-income families who need it most. Our bill is a critical step toward rescuing Americans from Obamacare’s trail of broken promises—including skyrocketing costs, lost coverage, collapsing marketplaces, and unaffordable taxes and mandates.

“While Obamacare’s collapse jeopardizes Americans with pre-existing conditions, under our plan no one can be denied coverage, and no one who has coverage can be charged more based on a pre-existing condition. That is a fact.

“The House kept its promise to the American people, and now it is the Senate’s turn to take action and pass this critical legislation so President Trump can sign it into law and deliver affordable health care to American families.”
