WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement in response to the president’s remarks on the status of the Iran nuclear talks.
“Vast bipartisan concern exists within Congress regarding a nuclear-armed Iran and the threat it would pose to America and the world,” Rep. Scalise said. “Serious questions remain surrounding the parameters of the proposed framework reached between the P5+1 and Iran in their nuclear negotiations. I expect a detailed explanation from the Administration to Congress on the exact parameters of the framework. As a regime that continues to promote terror throughout the Middle East, I’m concerned with the extent of sanctions relief and verification measures involved in this deal with Iran. As the negotiations continue, the president must work with Congress to address our concerns and ensure that there is wide bipartisan support for a final deal that addresses these and other concerns. The American people and our allies in the Middle East deserve nothing less.”
