WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the below statement following House passage of the Conference Report accompanying S. Con. Res. 11, the Republican Budget.

“For the first time in 14 years, Congress has come together to pass a responsible budget that forces Washington to live within its means by balancing within the 10-year window,” Rep. Scalise said. “Our budget reflects the priorities of middle class American families by focusing on growing a healthy economy, strengthening and securing Medicare and Social Security, ensuring a strong national defense, cutting wasteful Washington spending, and repealing Obamacare once and for all. Today’s vote paves the way toward patient-centered reforms that lower costs and get federal bureaucrats out of our health care decisions. The American people are tired of President Obama’s class warfare and Washington-knows-best, top down approach, and our budget reverses those failed policies so hard-working taxpayers can have equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

“I applaud the leadership of Chairmen Price and Enzi, and the tireless work of the members of the Budget Conference Committee and their staffs for bringing forth a roadmap to restore fiscal sanity to Washington and expand opportunity for all.”
