WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the House voted to pass the Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Requirements Act of 2017 to provide an additional $36.5 billion in disaster aid to address the damage done by the recent hurricanes and wildfires:

“Being from southeast Louisiana, I am all-too familiar with the devastating effects of hurricanes and the havoc they wreak on our communities. That’s why the House took strong action today by passing an additional $36.5 billion in disaster aid to help the areas of our country hurt by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, as well as the wildfires ravaging California. Ensuring people are able to get back on their feet and into their homes and businesses is a top priority, and today’s bipartisan action by the House is crucial to those recovery efforts. I’m also pleased the critical National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is kept fully funded as part of this package.

“We in Congress, along with President Trump, will remain committed to swiftly getting help to those who need it moving forward.”
