WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 1191, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act. H.R. 1191 passed with strong bipartisan support, 400-25.

“A top priority of this Republican Congress is to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran, which would pose a grave threat to America and Israel, while also threatening to start a nuclear arms race throughout the Middle East,” Scalise said. “That’s why our Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act holds the Obama Administration accountable throughout the negotiation process and ensures that Congress has the final say over any potential agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear weapons program. We can’t allow the Administration to settle for a bad deal, an outcome that would only embolden the extremists in Tehran, who have a history of untrustworthiness, and this bipartisan legislation allows us to reject a bad deal that would jeopardize America’s national security. The House will continue to pursue aggressive oversight of any deal with Iran, and we will continue to demand accountability from the Administration as these negotiations continue.”
