Scalise on Fox News: Let’s stop letting foreign countries take our jobs

On how the House’s tax reform bill will put money back in the pockets of American workers:

“I think the American people are really hungry for this. I mean, when you look at our tax cut bill, this is the best thing we can do to get our economy moving again. Look, I’m sick and tired of seeing these jobs move overseas. We’ve seen company after company move jobs to countries like Ireland or Canada. Under our bill we’re going to be able to move those jobs back and the best part of it is everybody who pays taxes will get a tax cut across every political spectrum. I mean, you look at whatever income range you’re in, you’ll be seeing a tax cut and that’s going to be something that when American families have, on average—a new study came out—$2,500 more back in your pockets from this bill, you’re going to be spend your money a lot better than Washington and this is going to get the economy moving.”

On the simplification this bill provides:“If you look at every different income range, you’re going to see everybody in those income ranges get a tax cut. What one person does versus another, as the Speaker said, we’re closing a lot of special interest loopholes. That doesn’t mean that somebody’s going to no longer pay less in taxes, it means they just don’t have to alter their behavior. They’re going to be paying less in taxes because every rate is going to go down and we simplify the code. Under our bill you’ll actually be able to fill out—over 90% of Americans will be able to fill out their taxes on a postcard. Just think of how complicated the current tax code is. Nobody can understand it. Now, it will be so simple over 90% of Americans can do their taxes on a postcard. On how this bill will grow our economy and bring back jobs from overseas:“If you look over the last eight years under President Obama, we had less than 2% growth every quarter. That’s anemic growth and there’s no excuse to have that little growth in our economy. We can do a lot better; we know that. Under our bill, I think you’re going to see over 3% growth; it could very well be higher than that. So, projections I’ve seen are very high. The good thing is you’re already seeing the economy take off based on just on us filing this bill. Look at what the stock market is doing. There are going to be a lot of jobs created. We’re going to bring back our middle-class. We have lost our middle-class over the last eight years. Let’s stop letting countries—foreign countries take our jobs. Let’s get our jobs back and rebuild our economy.”
