WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding today’s one-year anniversary of the Taliban Five swap:
“President Obama’s unilateral decision to let five senior Taliban fighters go free from Guantanamo Bay last year was unlawful, reckless and endangers the lives of Americans at home and abroad,” Scalise said. “The President’s flawed decision-making allows these terrorists the ability to return to the battlefield where they can continue to wage war against the United States and our American way of life.
“The American people have and continue to express steadfast opposition to the president’s reckless crusade to shut down Guantanamo Bay and bring those terrorists into America. House Republicans will continue working to ensure the safety of the American people.”
