WASHINGTON, D.C.—Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today regarding House passage of the 21st Century Cures Act (H.R.-6):

“The 21st Century Cures Act will remove barriers to critical biomedical research and development, so scientists and medical professionals no longer find their work held up by Washington bureaucrats and burdensome red tape,” Scalise said. “In addition to the crucial benefits this legislation can help provide for patients, it will help spur new American jobs in this growing industry, and maintains our commitment to fiscal responsibility by reducing the deficit more than $500 million while boosting America’s role as the world’s medical innovation leader. Washington regulations have failed to keep pace with the remarkable progress of science and are holding back new treatment options, even cures, which could help millions of people who are struggling with diseases. This landmark 21st Century Cures bill will make bold reforms to the FDA and spur innovation that will lead to cures for millions of Americans.”
