WASHINGTON, D.C.—Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding the VA Accountability Act (H.R. 1994), which is slated for a vote later this month in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“A culture of corruption and incompetence, which has come to define the Department of Veterans Affairs, unfortunately persists despite both a change in leadership and Congress passing landmark legislation requiring more accountability at the department. Our veterans have earned the best care possible and the gratitude of a thankful nation. What they’ve received from the VA in return for their service is nothing short of offensive. I’m proud of the rigorous oversight performed by Chairman Jeff Miller and the Veterans Affairs Committee thus far. It is my hope that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will come together to pass the VA Accountability Act later this month, to ensure that our nation’s veterans receive the benefits they have earned and the accountability they deserve.”
