Scalise Scores Major Louisiana Wins in White House Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding the President’s budget proposal.

“I am glad the White House has sent Congress a budget proposal that focuses on growing the economy and reducing the deficit by promoting proven conservative principles. This budget is a step forward in cutting wasteful Washington spending, strengthening our border security, and proposing common-sense government reforms. It also reflects the positive economic growth and increase in job opportunities we have already been seeing as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and continues this important pro-growth work by removing harmful federal regulations so we can create more jobs. This budget moves the country’s spending in the right direction, and while more work remains, I am pleased with this Administration’s commitment to reducing the deficit and improving long-term fiscal sustainability.

“For my constituents in Louisiana, I am pleased to say that after negotiating with President Trump and Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, the revenue sharing increase I have continuously strived for is preserved in this proposal for the first time since 2009, so I commend President Trump and OMB Director Mulvaney for working with me to prioritize this provision that is a critical part of our energy dominance strategy and is crucial to Louisiana’s coastal restoration efforts. As Congress continues to work with the White House on implementing this budget proposal, I am committed to ensuring Louisiana is treated fairly and finally is able to participate in the revenue sharing that is part of American energy production.”
