WASHINGTON, D.C.—Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding House passage of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement:

“Republicans are the party of both national security and fiscal responsibility, and this budget agreement moves the ball forward in both of these crucial areas—reprioritizing a strong national defense while securing important mandatory spending reforms and rooting out fraud and double-dipping in the Social Security disability program, saving more than $160 billion.

“With this agreement, the President can no longer use the threat of default to achieve his own left-wing political goals. This budget deal will help conservatives accomplish key parts of what we came here to do: set our nation on a better fiscal track, grow a healthy economy, and strengthen our national defense so America remains strong and free in the face of increasing threats around the world.”
