Working to Create Safer Neighborhoods: Giving Law Enforcement the Tools to Combat Gang Violence
WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding the House’s passage of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Authorization Act of 2017, sponsored by Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.). This legislation would establish a grant program to provide resources to state and local entities to curb the rise in gang activity and violence.
“As communities throughout the nation confront the scourge of gang violence, it’s critical that we ensure local law enforcement has the tools and training they need to combat this growing threat. Americans deserve to feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods, and I’m proud to have helped lead the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Authorization Act to passage so we can better equip our local law enforcement officers and allow them to partner with state and federal agencies to direct these resources to the areas that are most needed to protect our neighborhoods,” said Whip Scalise.
