WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after receiving FEMA’s new guidance restoring the ability of the National Flood Insurance Program to write and renew flood insurance policies during the government shutdown:

“I’m glad after speaking with OMB and FEMA yesterday that they have decided to reverse course and allow flood insurance policies to continue as usual. While it’s frustrating that they did not follow Congressional intent from the beginning, I’m glad they were willing to work with me on reversing their initial decision. I will work with the Administration on passing a long-term reauthorization of the flood insurance program. Millions of families in Louisiana and across the country rely on this program, and we need to give them the assurances and peace of mind they deserve.”
