WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after House Democrats failed to override President Trump’s veto of a bill blocking the border wall emergency declaration:
“Democrats continue to obstruct President Trump’s actions to address the humanitarian and security crisis along the southern border, but won’t stand up for victims of illegal immigrant crime or the countless communities being devastated by the opioid epidemic. Democrats need to stop their open border extremism and come together with Republicans to secure our country. Today was just another predictable show vote from Speaker Pelosi and her liberal lieutenants that does nothing actually help Americans. President Trump continues to fulfill his oath to keep our nation safe and I support all legal tools at his disposal to protect Americans from crime, drugs, and human trafficking.”
