WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 3724, the Ensuring Integrity in the IRS Workforce Act of 2015, and H.R. 4890, legislation to ban the IRS from awarding undeserved bonuses:

“The IRS continues to rehire employees who were fired for abusing their positions, including some who improperly accessed the sensitive, personal information of hard-working taxpayers. That kind of arrogant, offensive behavior would not be tolerated in the private sector, and that is why the House took action to prevent the IRS from from rehiring former employees who were fired for abusing their positions.

“The IRS should be more afraid of the consequences of abusing their power, than the American people are of the IRS. It’s time for the IRS to become more accountable to the people who pay the bills, and I’m proud to support the action we’ve taken in the House today to reign in the IRS by putting a stop to further abuses and corrupt practices.”
