WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the House, in a strong bipartisan vote of 350-46, acted to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), avoiding a lapse in the program. The bill now heads to the Senate to be voted on.

“The National Flood Insurance Program is vital for families and businesses in Southeast Louisiana and around the country, and I will not stop fighting for long-term improvements to this program. As we work toward passing a long-term reauthorization of NFIP, we must give certainty to all those families who depend on it by not allowing any lapses. While this one-week extension is certainly not ideal, I am committed to keep working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to find a long-term solution that provides affordability and sustainability for policyholders and strong protections for taxpayers.”
