WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Commerce’s decision to allow some export swaps of crude oil to Mexico:

“While this decision by the Department of Commerce is an important first step, it is also a reminder of the urgent need to fully repeal the outdated ban on crude oil exports once and for all,” Scalise said. “Repealing the federal government’s 1970’s-era ban on crude oil exports would strengthen America’s energy security, give a big boost to our economy, and create an estimated one million jobs throughout the nation, including thousands in Louisiana. I’m working hard to grow support among my House colleagues on this critical issue, as we push to have Congress take action to repeal this outdated ban.”
