Creating American Jobs and Growing a Healthy American Economy Through Trade

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today regarding American trade:

“While I’m disappointed by the lack of Democratic support for today’s TAA vote, I’m proud of House Republicans for coming together to pass TPA legislation to give American workers a competitive edge, so that we can create jobs and grow a healthy economy here at home. 

“The world is watching. Our allies need to know that America is the global leader, and that we—not China—are setting the rules of the road on trade.

“The President has some work to do over the next several days, and the House will continue this process to help create good-paying jobs, grow our economy, and strengthen our national security. I urge House Democrats to reconsider their position, and do the right thing for the American people by passing TAA when we return next week.”
