WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the House approved H.R. 758, the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act:
“Every year, countless frivolous lawsuits are filed, costing hard-working taxpayers and small businesses untold sums of money and time,” Scalise said. “Victims of these suits are often faced with an impossible choice: spending thousands of dollars in legal fees or thousands of dollars on a settlement. Only the trial lawyers, with nothing to lose, walk away winners regardless of the outcome. This much needed legislation brings fairness to the courts and protects the innocent individuals and small business owners who too often find themselves the victims of frivolous and meritless lawsuits.”
