WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding the House of Representatives’ passage of the Highway and Transportation Funding Act (H.R. 2353) today:

“This clean two-month extension protects critical highway, transit and safety priorities, using existing Highway Trust Fund resources, and it allows Congress time to pursue a long-term solution to fund America’s transportation infrastructure,” Scalise said. “A short-term solution was not our first choice, but unfortunately some chose to play partisan politics with our highways and transportation infrastructure, rather than work toward a long-term solution. The Republican House didn’t allow irresponsible political games to disrupt critical job-creating transportation projects throughout our country, and I hope Democrats will come to the table to negotiate the responsible, long-term solution Americans deserve.”
