WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement regarding passage of H.R. 30, the Save American Workers Act of 2015, a bill to repeal the 30-hour workweek threshold under the Obamacare employer mandate.

“Today’s vote is an important first step toward replacing the president’s devastating health care law with common-sense legislation that actually lowers costs and puts patients back in charge of their health care decisions,” Rep. Scalise said. “Despite the president’s claims to the contrary, Obamacare’s definition of ‘full-time’ employment hurts low-and middle-income wage earners – the same population the law purports to help. The ‘30-hour rule’ has already caused decreased hours and fewer jobs for hard-working taxpayers. In my home district, the president’s definition of ‘full-time’ disproportionately affects the tens of thousands of employees that work in New Orleans’ world-renowned hospitality industry. We must reverse the devastating impacts that Obamacare is having on families across our country. I look forward to my colleagues in the Senate quickly sending this crucial legislation to the president’s desk.”
