WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement regarding the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) announcement that the personal records of more than 21 million Americans – six times the number initially reported – were stolen as a result of the data breach at the agency’s background investigation database:

“Today’s revelation that the personal information of more than 21 million Americans was stolen from government databases by hackers is a further example that President Obama allows gross incompetence to run rampant within his administration. The President’s handling of the OPM data breach is nothing short of breathtaking in its inadequacy. Considering this gross incompetence, the American people deserve accountability, so I am calling on President Obama to fire the OPM Director and take immediate action to protect the information of all those Americans who have been placed at risk.”
