WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement regarding the House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 1806, the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act:

“For America to retain our competitive edge and create good-paying jobs here at home, we need to prioritize our investments wisely and responsibly in basic scientific research,” Scalise said. “The America COMPETES Act helps ensure that America remains the world’s innovation leader and Americans are first in line for the jobs of tomorrow in fields like energy, computer science, chemistry and biology. This bill also stands up for hard-working taxpayers by eliminating wasteful Washington spending and radical global warming programs.”

Scalise went to the House floor to highlight examples of wasteful research spending that does not further our national interest. Click here to watch his remarks.
