WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today regarding the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to leave in place a hold on President Obama’s executive amnesty:

“I applaud the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals for upholding the rule of law by blocking the implementation of President Obama’s illegal executive amnesty. Today’s ruling serves as yet another reminder that the President has no authority to grant amnesty to people who are in our country illegally, and his attempts to do so are a direct affront to the constitutional separation of powers,” Scalise said. “It’s time for President Obama to abandon his divisive and illegal attempts to write his own immigration policy, and start working with Congress to secure the border and uphold the laws of our great nation.”
