WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding the Department of Labor’s May 2015 unemployment report:

“Growing our economy and creating good-paying jobs is the top priority of the Republican Congress,” Scalise said. “While it’s encouraging that more Americans have found work, there are still far too many families who are struggling with stagnant wages while daily costs for things like food and utilities continue to rise. That’s why it’s so critical that the House passes Trade Priorities and Accountability (TPA) legislation, which will allow American workers to be more competitive globally and open up new markets for small businesses, farmers and manufacturers to sell their products to other countries across the world. TPA does this by letting Congress set strict, enforceable trade standards, and holds President Obama accountable by allowing Congress to veto any deal that doesn’t meet these conditions that we set. With millions of families still struggling to get back on track, TPA will give American workers a much-needed competitive edge, to grow a healthy economy here at home, and help hardworking taxpayers achieve the American Dream.”
