WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today announced the Whip office’s coalitions team.

The Whip’s Deputy Policy Director Marty Reiser will lead the team’s business coalitions operation.

“There’s no one more connected or experienced to lead our business coalitions operation than Marty Reiser. From his work building key coalitions to passing our historic tax reform bill, to his expertise on health care and trade, he will be a huge asset as he takes on this additional role on our team,” said Whip Scalise.

Eric Schmitz will serve as the coalitions coordinator, leading the team’s outreach to the conservative community. Eric joins the team from Susan B. Anthony List where he served as the Legislative Director.

“Eric’s experience with one of the most impactful pro-life organizations, Susan B. Anthony List, will be indispensable as we intensify our efforts to combat the Left’s agenda and lead on conservative priorities, including protecting innocent life and preserving American liberties,” said Whip Scalise. “I look forward to welcoming Eric to the team and delivering for the American people.”

“We are incredibly proud to see Eric join the staff of our close ally, pro-life hero Congressman Steve Scalise,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Eric’s tireless work at SBA List lobbying for life on Capitol Hill has contributed so much to the stature of our organization today. His years of experience will be an invaluable asset in the Whip’s Office. Though he will be missed on our team, we congratulate him on his new role and greatly look forward to continuing to work together to save lives.”

Marty is Deputy Policy Director focusing on health care, tax, trade and pension issues. Prior to joining Team Scalise in 2014 he was with House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee. Earlier in his career he served as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff for Rep. Dan Miller (R-Fla.). He also spent time in the private sector with Xerox Corp. governmental affairs and as Vice President for Policy at Citizens for a Sound Economy. He earned his BA from Holy Cross, MA in International Affairs from George Washington University and JD from George Mason university.

Eric has served as the Legislative Director for the Susan B. Anthony List since October 2014. Eric spent most of his time on Capitol Hill where he built coalitions and lobbied Members of Congress and staff on life and bioethics issues. Eric has previously worked for the Maryland House of Delegates and on the Hill for former Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-Md.).
