WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the Army Corps of Engineers released its 2019 Work Plan.
“I’m glad the Corps included more than $180 million for important projects in Louisiana, including nearly $100 million to make major improvements to navigational projects throughout Southeast Louisiana.
“I will continue pushing the Corps to finally give the attention needed to critical, long-awaited flood protection projects for South Louisiana that were not included in this plan. While I am strongly disappointed that this Work Plan fails to provide much-needed funding for key flood protection projects, our waterways, including the Houma Navigation Canal and the Mississippi River, are key economic drivers in our state, and it is also important that the Corps manage these waterways properly as part of our flood protection efforts.”
