WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) applauded the Department of Interior’s announcement today that Louisiana will receive $82 million under the first disbursement of phase two of the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 (GOMESA). This follows his personal negotiations with the White House to include revenue sharing funds in the budget.

“Louisiana loses a football field of land every hour because of coastal erosion, and revenue sharing from offshore oil and gas payments is critical in our efforts to reverse this trend. That’s why I directly appealed to the Trump Administration to include offshore revenue sharing funds in the White House budget, and I applaud the Administration and Secretary Zinke for their announcement today. This $82 million will be critical in our state’s efforts to fight coastal erosion and I’ll continue to fight for more revenue sharing so that we can restore our coast, which is our first line of defense against future Gulf storms.”
