WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the House passed the Extension of Continuing Appropriations Act, 2018 to continue to fund the government at current levels until February 16.“By continuing to fund the government today, the House took action to ensure our men and women in the military will continue to have the tools they need to keep us safe. Importantly for Louisiana, the National Flood Insurance Program is also extended with this bill.

“This bill also provides more relief from the failure of Obamacare by repealing the Medical Device Tax and the Health Insurance Tax.

“Critically, this bill also provides a long-term extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that provides health insurance to nearly 9 million vulnerable children across our country. As this bill passes the House, Senate Democrats need to take a serious look into the mirror and decide if they really want to shut down the government and deny health care to those nearly 9 million children in order to provide amnesty for people here illegally.”
