WASHINGTON, DC—Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today regarding the inclusion of $500 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to be made available to Louisiana flood victims in the Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government. The legislation passed the Senate earlier today and passed the House this evening with broad bipartisan support, 342-85. The bill now heads to President Obama’s desk for his signature:

“This down payment on flood relief is an important step in the recovery process and a major victory for the thousands of families struggling to put their lives back together. It should give the victims of this historic flood confidence that they will get the help they need to rebuild their homes, their businesses, and their communities. Our people are still struggling, and there is more work to be done, but I will continue working tirelessly alongside my Louisiana colleagues to secure the resources the people of our state need in order to fully recover from the floods.”

Prior to the vote, Whip Scalise urged passage of the Continuing Resolution, which included $500 million in aid for Louisiana flood victims.
