WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding the passage of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement Act:

“For too long, America’s men and women in uniform have faced budget uncertainty that has challenged our military readiness and threatened their ability to safely train for their missions. With this two-year Bipartisan Budget Act, Congress finally answers the call of our military generals and our Commander-in-Chief to provide our military with the certainty and resources our troops need to keep our nation safe.

“This act, which now heads to President Trump’s desk to be signed, also achieves a significant conservative policy victory by repealing Obamacare’s harmful Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB).

“I’m also pleased that this agreement will continue the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to give families and businesses the stability they need, especially as many in Louisiana continue to recover from flooding. Additionally, I’m glad this package permanently extends legislation I introduced, the Steve Gleason Enduring Voices Act — named to honor ALS advocate and former Saints player Steve Gleason — to provide important protections for those battling diseases like ALS who rely on speech-generating devices.”
