WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) released the following statement after the United States House of Representatives passed H.R. 1301, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2017:
“Today the House took critical action to keep our country safe by properly funding our national defense and giving our men and women in uniform a well-earned pay raise.
“This bill will ensure America’s military superiority as we face dangerous threats around the globe, and help close the readiness gap by providing for essential equipment, necessary upgrades, and investments in defense technology. The bill also looks out for those who serve and their families by providing the largest pay raise in six years, as well as enhancing medical care for our troops.
“Our military service members, veterans, and their families have made incredible sacrifices for our nation, and we have an obligation to make sure they have the resources they need both on and off the battlefield. I urge the Senate to act quickly to pass this bill and send it to President Trump’s desk, so we can fulfill this obligation to our troops and our citizens.”
