WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement following the House’s passage of four bills increasing sanctions on Iran and Hezbollah: the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act, the Sanctioning Hezbollah’s Illicit Use of Civilians as Defenseless Shields Act, the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act of 2017, and a resolution urging the European Union to designate Hezbollah in its entirety as a terrorist organization and increase pressure on it and its members.
“I am pleased the House took bold action to crack down on the Iranian regime and their state sponsorship of terrorism. The Iranian regime’s support of the terrorist organization Hezbollah has directly threatened our ally Israel and has perpetuated deadly conflicts in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen that threaten our security. The legislation we passed today will impose strict sanctions on Hezbollah and their enablers like Iran, cutting off crucial financial resources they need to carry out their terror.
“As President Trump outlined in his new Iran strategy, we must stop any attempts they make to develop ballistic missiles and counter their dangerous aggression that threatens regional stability and world security, and I encourage the Senate to swiftly pass these bills so they can be signed into law.”
