WASHINGTON, D.C. – Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) made the following statement today after the House voted to pass H.J.Res. 43, using the Congressional Review Act to strike down an Obama administration policy that forces states to fund abortion providers:

“I am glad the House took strong action to ensure that states are not forced to fund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

“Hardworking taxpayers should not be forced to pay for abortion providers, and our legislation repeals this harmful Obama rule and restores the rights of states to make their own decisions on how to distribute Title X funding in a way that best serves the needs of their constituents.

“The House’s action today will allow states to better direct funding to community health centers that provide quality care for women without using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion, and I urge the Senate to act quickly to put this legislation on President Trump’s desk so we can once again protect innocent life while also ensuring better healthcare.”
