WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Fox News Channel’s The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino to discuss President Donald Trump’s success in renegotiating a trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada that more fairly represents American interests, which follows Scalise’s statement last month calling on Canadian leaders to come to the table or face Congressional action. Scalise highlighted how the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement will benefit American workers and businesses. He then stressed the difference between Republicans and Democrats and their goals in Congress.

On the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) Trade Agreement:

“I don’t think Nancy Pelosi wants to see this economy growing like it is. She’s against the tax cuts that are making it grow. This is a great deal that President Trump negotiated, to first renegotiate with Mexico and then Canada. How many people would have thought, if you heard the rhetoric over the past year, that the President was going to be able to get a better deal for America with Canada and Mexico? This is good for American workers. In Wisconsin, with the dairy problems they were having, this opens up a lot of markets. I applaud President Trump on doing the things he promised, cutting better deals and standing up for America. We’re rebuilding our military, too, by the way. All of those things are really important…”

On Republican priorities compared to Democratic priorities in Congress:

“Well, clearly, you’ve got to show the contrast. You’ve got to talk about what we’re doing that’s really working for families and people see that. They’re seeing more money in their pay checks. Now they know why and they know Nancy Pelosi wants to take it away. She thought it was crumbs. They’re enjoying that $1,000 bonus and the other things that they’re seeing.

“…The other side wants to talk about health care. They’re for single payer health care. Right now, Medicare is going bankrupt in eight years if we don’t save it from bankruptcy. They want to dump about 200 million more people on Medicare and make it go bankrupt quicker. That’s not something good for seniors. It’s not good for people who have private insurance. The Democrats’ plan gets rid of the private insurance market. People need to know about that. When they hear about it, they don’t like it.”
