WASHINGTON, D.C.— Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today regarding the House’s unanimous passage of H.R. 599, the Federal Communications Commission Consolidated Reporting Act of 2017, Scalise’s legislation to reduce the reporting workload for job creators and increase the efficiency of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):
“Outdated regulations shouldn’t be holding back American innovation,” Scalise said. “Each dollar spent on unnecessary FCC reporting mandates is a dollar that isn’t being spent to create jobs, boost our economy, or build infrastructure. This common-sense legislation cuts red tape by getting rid of those obsolete rules and streamlining the way the FCC operates. These reforms are long overdue, and I’m proud to lead the effort to bring the operations of the FCC into the 21st century.”
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) issued the following statement regarding the bill:
“This commonsense bill streamlines the activity of the FCC, reducing reporting burdens and encouraging the agency to analyze competition in the marketplace as a whole, rather than in outdated regulatory silos. I thank Majority Whip Scalise for his hard work on this bill and I’m hopeful we can get it across the finish line and improve the functioning of the FCC.”
And Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said the following:

This is the fourth consecutive Congress in which Scalise’s legislation has been passed through the U.S. House.
